I’ve had the opportunity to try out PDF Embedder for myself, and I’m excited to share my first impressions and thoughts with you.

However, sometimes you may need a page with nothing but the embedded document. That’s fine, but if you’ve got lots of PDFs then creating multiple ‘PDF-only’ pages can take ages.

That’s where PDF Embedder’s ‘Attachment Pages’ feature comes in. Every time you upload a PDF, the plugin can generate a page for it automatically.

Here’s how it works: simply click on the PDF in your WordPress Media Library, and you’ll see a link to ‘View attachment page’ on the right-hand side.

3. Fully Customizable

Okay, so how about customization? 

PDF Embedder provides a central location where you can tweak all the default settings: viewer size, toolbar buttons, placement, watermarks – the works. Set it once, and boom, every PDF you embed gets the same treatment.

And get this – PDF Embedder has another smart feature when it comes to height. If you leave the height setting at its default (which is “max”) the plugin does something really clever.

Think about it: not all PDFs are the same size. Some are standard A4, others are smaller A5, and you have both portrait (tall) and landscape (wide) documents. PDF Embedder has a really neat solution for dealing with smaller screens. If the embed area shrinks below 500 pixels, then it switches to a special full screen mode.

In this mode, visitors will see a thumbnail of the PDF, with a big ‘View in Full Screen’ button.

Clicking this button opens the document in full screen mode, where it takes up the entire screen and allows visitors to move around freely without accidentally interacting with other parts of the page. 

I found this feature useful on mobile devices, where the small screen can make it difficult to interact with embedded content. But what I really appreciate is that PDF Embedder applies this logic to all web browsers – not just mobile ones.

And, when the visitor has finished viewing the document, they can easily click the ‘Edit’ button to return to the regular view. Simple! 

My Honest Thoughts/Review: This is a game-changer for engagement. Look, people get distracted easily. You want to keep them focused on your content.

PDF Embedder’s smart full screen mode lets them dive right into the PDF without any distractions. It creates a clean, immersive reading experience. It’s like giving them a dedicated space to read, without all the clutter of your website around it – plus, it’s great for mobile users! It’s a win-win, in my opinion. 

7. Optimized For Performance

Let’s cut to the chase: speed matters. If your PDFs are slow to load, then no-one will hang around long enough to read them.

Thankfully, PDF Embedder knows this. By serving all JavaScript and other files directly from your own server, PDF Embedder ensures your PDF files load quickly without any speed penalty.

But what really impressed me was the plugin’s encryption feature – not only can it encrypt PDFs before transmitting them to the user’s browser, but it can also cache the encrypted version. Think about it – no re-encryption on repeat views. Speed stays up, security stays tight.

8. User-Friendly Toolbar 

Alright, let’s talk about PDF Embedder’s toolbar. It’s clean, it’s simple, and it’s easy to use. You’ve got your standard Next/Previous, zoom controls – everything you need.

But here’s where it gets interesting: you’re not stuck with defaults. You can change the global settings, or override them for individual PDFs. You can also change where the toolbar appears (Top, Bottom, or Both) or even hide it completely. 

What’s more, you can customize the toolbar’s behavior so it remains visible onscreen at all times, or only appears when visitors hover over the PDF.

My Honest Thoughts/Review: Basically, you’re in full control of how your visitors interact with your PDFs. It’s this level of customization that makes PDF Embedder a winner.

9. Flexible Zoom Control 

PDF Embedder automatically adjusts the zoom level for each embedded PDF, ensuring the content fits neatly onscreen in both normal mode and full screen mode. Super convenient! 

However, as I dug deeper into the plugin’s settings, I discovered you also have complete control over the zoom level for individual PDF viewers.

Whether you want to display a PDF at its actual size or scale it up, the options are flexible. You can even get specific and choose a precise percentage zoom level – perfect for when you need to fine-tune the layout of a particular document.

10. Seamless PDF Navigation

As I was testing PDF Embedder, I noticed that it makes all links within your PDFs clickable – no matter whether they’re internal links between your own pages or external links to other websites. 

That’s super convenient. 

If you do choose to include outbound links, then you can set them to open in a new tab in the plugin’s settings. That way, you’re not driving visitors away from your site.

11. One-Click PDF Downloads:

As I was testing PDF Embedder, one of the features that really stood out to me was its ability to add a ‘Download’ button directly in the toolbar. This is incredibly convenient for visitors who want to easily download your PDFs with just one click – perfect for documents like training manuals or ebooks that people may need to refer to frequently.

But here’s the thing: you’re not stuck with this button.

Don’t want to encourage visitors to download your documents? Then you can disable the ‘Download’ button in the plugin’s settings, or remove it for individual PDFs.

This feature lets them do that with a single click. It’s a simple feature, but in my opinion it can make a BIG difference to the user experience.

Do you have very long or complicated documents? No problem! PDF Embedder lets people search for words or phrases right inside the PDF. This is a game-changer for anyone who wants to make their PDFs more interactive and user-friendly.

13. Automatic and Customizable Scrollbars

One thing I really like about PDF Embedder is that it works seamlessly with most browsers, so  you typically don’t need to worry about scrollbars. Visitors can simply use their mouse to move around the PDF, and temporary scrollbars will appear automatically. 

However, if you want permanent scrollbars then PDF Embedder has you covered. You can specify where to display vertical scrollbars, horizontal scrollbars, or both in the plugin’s settings.

14. Touchscreen-Friendly: Effortless Swiping and Scrolling

PDF Embedder has a smart approach when it comes to user interaction, and it gives you a few different options. To start, users can swipe or scroll between pages – something that feels particularly natural on touchscreen devices like smartphones and tablets.

Prefer a more traditional approach? No problem! You can disable continuous scrolling so that visitors need to use the toolbar’s Next/Previous buttons instead. 

Think about it this way: if you’ve got a long report, making people click through each page can help them concentrate. But if it’s a product catalog, letting shoppers scroll freely might make them browse more. 

With PDF Embedder you can choose what works best for each PDF and the people reading it. 

My Honest Thoughts/Review: This feature is essential in today’s world. If your PDFs aren’t easy to use on touchscreens, then you’re missing out on a huge audience. People expect to be able to swipe, pinch, and zoom without any problems. In my experience, PDF Embedder delivers exactly that. 

15. Exclusive Content, Securely Delivered

As I’ve been testing various PDF plugins, I’ve come across a feature that’s particularly useful for protecting your digital assets: PDF Embedder’s ‘Secure PDFs’ option.

Let me explain. As a content creator, you may have valuable documents that you don’t want people to share outside of your website. For example, you might have exclusive e-books, whitepapers, or reports that are only meant for your registered members or customers. You might also have sensitive information such as contracts or proposals, that need to be kept confidential.

We all know determined people can sometimes find ways around things. But here’s the thing: PDF Embedder adds a significant hurdle. It makes it much harder for the casual content thief, and it’ll definitely discourage a lot of people from even trying.

16. Beyond Basic Watermarks

Want to protect your PDFs? Watermarks are your friend. They remind visitors that your content is copyrighted and discourage them from sharing screenshots.

With PDF Embedder, you can specify some ‘watermark text’ that will appear over every PDF that you display securely.

The first thing we consider when creating a successful revenue-boosting strategy is the effective use of discounts and promotions. We have found this is one of the easiest ways to increase the perceived value of our products and services.

That’s because strategic discounts can incentivize customers to purchase more, driving up your average order value. WowRevenue shines in this area, offering a versatile suite of tools to implement diverse promotional tactics.

Here are some of the key discount types you can easily implement with WowRevenue:

  • Standard Discounts: Boost sales by offering percentage or fixed-amount discounts on your most popular items or specific product categories.
  • Quantity Discounts: Promote bulk purchasing by offering increasing discounts as users buy more of a specific product.

WowRevenue provides a flexible campaign builder interface so you can choose where to target your promotions. You can display your campaigns on certain product pages (or all of them), your cart page, checkout page, and even your thank you page.

You just need to select where to display the campaign using the checkboxes at the top of the Create Campaign screen.

You also have multiple options on how to display the campaign. For example, you can display it right on the product page. If you choose this option, then you can use the plugin’s settings to choose where you would like to display it on the page.

But if you prefer to keep your product pages uncluttered, you can display the campaign in an animated pop-up window or a floating window. In both cases, there are plenty of options that let you customize the window.

Now, if you selected the option to display the discount campaign on product pages earlier, then the next step is to decide which products to display it on.

You can display it on all products, specific products, or specific categories of products.

A user-friendly popup window allows you to precisely select the product pages or categories where you wish to display the campaign.

If you have a lot of products, then you can use the search bar at the top to filter the list.

Next, you need to select the products that you wish to discount. Currently, you need to select each product manually. In the future, WowRevenue to plan to add an automation option.

Helpfully, the interface for selecting products is the same as selecting Campaign Trigger Products above.

From there, you can define the minimum quantity required to activate the discount, where you can decide whether customers need to meet certain requirements to qualify for the promotion.

The plugin allows you to customize the discount with ease, choosing between a percentage discount, a fixed discount amount, or a fixed price, giving you a great deal of control over your promotional strategy.

Normally, a campaign will run from the time you create it until you manually stop it. However, there are also Schedule settings so you can start and stop campaigns automatically.

We love how there are plenty of settings that allow you to optimize your promotions.

You can add incentives such as free shipping and implement a sense of urgency with a countdown timer. As you adjust your campaign settings, WowRevenue provides a helpful real-time preview of your promotion on the right of the screen.

By clicking on different parts of the preview, you can adjust the text, size, padding, color, and more. We love that this is updated in real-time, so you can see exactly how it will look to the customer.

Honestly, we found the flexibility of the campaign editor to be one of the plugin’s strongest points.

3. Offer Compelling Product Bundles

WowRevenue’s bundling feature lets you strategically boost sales by packaging related products together and offering them at a special discounted rate.

By simplifying the purchasing decision, product bundles can entice customers to buy more than they initially planned, effectively increasing your average order value (AOV).

Product bundles offer convenient, all-in-one solutions for customers, and WowRevenue provides you with the flexibility to set your own discounts.

While many stores and online marketplaces apply discounts of 20-40% to encourage bulk purchases, WowRevenue lets you customize this based on your business strategy.

Currently, WowRevenue offers two bundling options, with more on the way:

  • Bundle Discount: Create curated bundles of products and offer them at a discount, enticing customers to purchase a complete set rather than individual items.
  • Product Mix and Match: Allow customers to personalize their bundle by mixing and matching products from your store to suit their needs.

Both options are accessible within the same user-friendly interface as other discount types, so you can navigate the setup with ease.

When using the campaign builder to set up a bundle promotion, you will select the products to include, and then apply either a percentage or fixed discount to the entire bundle.

On the front end of your store, customers will see the discount applied to individual items and the entire bundle, and can purchase the bundle by clicking the ‘Add to Cart’ button.

For the mix-and-match option, the interface remains familiar, but with slight variations.

To designate certain products as mandatory within the bundle, please select the checkboxes next to them.

One of our favorite methods to significantly boost your revenue is through strategic order bumps, where you offer enticing products to customers during the checkout process. This is a proven strategy to encourage customers to add more to their order before completing their purchase.

The WowRevenue website explains that, when implemented effectively, upselling can increase revenue by up to 40%. Amazon is a great example of this success, with order bumps contributing 35% to their total revenue. With WowRevenue, you can leverage this power on your own store.

The best time to present these order bumps is when customers are reviewing their cart or finalizing the checkout process. This gives them the chance to add more items before proceeding with payment.

However, you can also get good results by offering related items on your product pages, providing customers with more options.

Scheduling and FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) techniques are also available here, enabling you to further optimize your campaigns for maximum conversion.

And because I know everyone’s needs are different, you can remove the default text and replace it with your own custom message.

WPConsent adds its own logo to the cookie banner by default. I think this is pretty handy for people who want to show they’re using a trusted tool.

6. Effortless Cookie Policy Creation

Transparency matters with cookies, right? WPConsent makes it super simple to add a Cookie Policy to your site.

Just add WPConsent’s shortcode to any page or post, and it’ll show all the cookie data you’ve set up. Easy disclosure, easy compliance, easy trust.

After creating this page, you can link to it from the cookie banner. Visitors just need to click ‘Preferences’ in the cookie consent banner.

Then, they can select the ‘Cookie Policy’ link and WPConsent will take them straight to the right page.

7. Automatic Website Scanner

This is a big one! WPConsent has an awesome built-in scanner that automatically finds all the services and cookies running on your site. It then displays this information in your WordPress dashboard.

You can perform this scan on-demand with a single click, or schedule it to run once per day, week, or month.

My Honest Thoughts/Review: This thing is a game-changer. Seriously. No more digging around, trying to figure out what cookies are doing what. This scanner does the work for you. 

8. Automatic Script Blocking

One of the biggest headaches with cookies is dealing with all those external tracking tools, right? You add Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel to your site, and boom – they’re collecting data before you even know what’s happening. 

Well, I’m happy to report that WPConsent’s automatic script blocking puts a stop to that.

WPConsent automatically detects and blocks common tracking scripts like Google Analytics, Google Ads, and Facebook Pixel. This helps you stay on the right side of privacy laws like GDPR, CCPA, and others, without messing up the user experience.

My Honest Thoughts/Review: Data privacy is a big deal. You can’t just let every script grab the visitor’s info without even asking. Basically, this feature isn’t a ‘nice-to-have’ – it’s absolutely essential. 

9. Ongoing Consent Management 

I’ve seen firsthand the impact that allowing users to manage their cookie preferences can have on the user experience. With that said, I knew that WPConsent had to give users a way to manage their consent settings, even after dismissing the cookie banner.

To do this, we created a ‘Settings’ button that you can add to your site with just a few clicks.

10. Documenting Cookies with WPConsent

As I always say, transparency is key when it comes to cookie management. It’s also how you build trust with your audience. 

Properly documenting your cookies helps visitors understand what data is being collected and stored on your website. WPConsent makes this process incredibly easy, thanks to its robust cookie management features.

I wanted to make things as easy as possible, so WPConsent will automatically record and manage most cookies for you. You can access this information at any point in the WordPress dashboard, giving you a clear picture of what’s happening on your site.

However, there may be times when you need to add custom information about a cookie that your website is using. No problem! 

In the WPConsent settings, simply provide details such as the name, ID, description, and duration for each cookie.

You can also edit existing cookies in WPConsent’s settings or delete cookies completely.

11. Providing Transparency with Service Details

Transparency is key, remember? That’s why WPConsent is so useful. It shows your visitors exactly which external services are using cookies on your site.

Just like adding cookies, you can add services right in the WPConsent dashboard. 

Simply give it a name, a description, and link to the relevant privacy policy. You can also assign the service to a category. With that done, you can link cookies to your new service.

My Honest Thoughts/Review: You need to tell your users who’s collecting their data, and this feature makes it easy. No more guessing games, no more hiding stuff. Just straight-up transparency. That’s how it should be.

12. Customizable Cookie Categories

Remember I said that WPConsent can identify cookies? It also categorizes them. This is a key feature as it helps visitors understand what each cookie does, so they can make informed decisions about their privacy.

WPConsent comes with some default categories – Essential, Statistics, and Marketing. That’s a solid start. But here’s the thing: you can add more categories if you need to.

Adding a new category is super easy. Just give it a name and a description – and that’s what your visitors will see on your site.

13. Automated Consent Logging

WPConsent automatically logs user consent, including their IP address, consent details, and the date. It then displays all this information right in the WordPress dashboard.

This log lets you quickly see individual user consent and privacy settings. But I knew some of our users would need to share this info. For example, if auditors or partners need to review your compliance, then WPConsent lets you download this log and share it with them. No need to create separate accounts and potentially undermine your WordPress security

You can also upload this file to your customer relationship management (CRM) app or similar tools. WPConsent makes it easy to record and share consent data, so you can keep things transparent and compliant.

My Honest Thoughts/Review: You need to log consent – after all, it’s not just about compliance, it’s about covering your back! This feature handles everything automatically, so you don’t have to worry about it.

14. Smart Geolocation Detection 

Cookie banners are important, but they can be annoying, right? WPConsent’s geolocation rules are a game-changer here.

We’ve made it so you can show or hide the cookie banner based on where your visitors are located. This is perfect for regions where cookie banners aren’t mandatory, or where you only need to offer an opt-out.

Just pick the locations in the plugin’s settings. Alternatively, you can show the banner to visitors from the EU only, simply by clicking a slider.

In this way, you can give visitors a tailored experience. No more irrelevant banners, which can boost your consent rates and keeps users happy. Think about it, nobody wants to see a banner they don’t need.

With WPConsent’s geolocation, you can give everyone a smooth experience, no matter where they are. In some cases, you might even be able to ditch the banner altogether – a huge win for the user experience.

Just a heads up, enabling geolocation means anonymized IP addresses are sent to our location API. We use this to determine each visitor’s location and keep things compliant.

My Honest Thoughts/Review: This one was for you guys. You kept asking us things like: how do I make my website compliant for people in different countries? How do I avoid bothering users with banners they don’t need?

And honestly? I get it. Dealing with global compliance can be a nightmare.

My honest opinion? This feature is gold. Now, you can run your site with confidence, knowing that you’re not annoying users with unnecessary banners.
